What is inside
A wedge of cake whose side shows every layer: sponge and strawberry, twice, under a cream top. Five layers, so it cracks in two stages.
- Outside: cream wax, medium
- Layer 4: strawberry wax, thin
- Layer 3: sponge wax, thin
- Layer 2: strawberry wax, thin
- Innermost: sponge wax, thin
- Core: sponge yellow clay
With 5 layers it breaks in two stages: the outer 3 layers crack and peel away first, then a smaller shell of 2 more layers waits underneath to be cracked on its own.
It is made in the cake slice mold, so the shell cracks and peels in that shape. The painted side shows the same layers you will see on the broken edges and in the cut-in-half photo.
